About Me & The Secret Cake Shed by Mimitu Bakes

Hi, I’m a mum of two young children, recently married, and I run Mimitu Bakes from my bakery conversion attached to my home, along with The Secret Cake Shed by Mimitu Bakes.

I’m a fully trained chef, but after having my children I made the decision to step away from professional kitchens due to the long and unsociable hours. My husband is also a chef, so working those hours just wasn’t realistic for our family life.

My Baking Journey

In 2019, I opened Mimitu Bakes, which quickly became really popular in my local area. It allowed me to continue doing what I love while building something that worked around family life.

In 2024, after lots of research and being inspired by seeing a cake shed on TikTok, I decided to create The Secret Cake Shed. It launched in April 2025, and we’ve now been running successfully for over a year and continuing to grow.

What I Offer

I bake freshly made sweet treats every day, all prepared the day or night before.

  • Everything is baked from scratch
  • Nothing is ever frozen
  • Menus change daily
  • I usually sell out

I like having the freedom to bake what feels right each day rather than sticking to a fixed menu. It keeps everything fresh, creative, and exciting.

My Approach

I don’t usually advertise my menu in advance, as I enjoy the flexibility of switching the oven on and baking whatever sweet treats I feel inspired to make.

This way of working allows me to keep things personal, seasonal, and spontaneous.

Beyond Baking

I’ve recently started a tiny library project, which works on a “take a book, leave a book” basis. I’m currently painting and restoring the mini library cupboard to make it more inviting.

I also quietly support a local author, and while I don’t publicly promote the details, it’s something I’m really proud to be part of. I also support local charities where I can, but I prefer to keep that side of things private.
