The Hellesdon Cake Shed is located at 24 Westwood Drive, Hellesdon, Norwich, NR6 5DE.

We’re open Saturdays and Sundays, 10am–10pm (or until sellout!), plus Bank Holidays too.

We accept cash, bank transfer, and card payments via QR code, making it easy to grab your weekend treats however you prefer.

How it started

I’ve baked as a hobby for as long as I can remember. After years of feeding family and friends, I eventually reached a point where I wanted to share my baking with as many people as possible.

I started offering celebration cakes and cupcakes alongside my 9–5 job. My weekday role is very much a “The Everything Assistant” position — a PA-meets-handywoman style job where I do a bit of everything, from cooking and cleaning to virtual support and social media management.

Over time, more and more people encouraged me to expand the baking side of things, but I wasn’t quite sure how to make it happen.

Then I came across a cake shed in Hopton.

I remember thinking, “This is amazing… I should do this!” half-joking at the time. But by the very next day, I’d ordered the shed and started planning menus.

And just like that, the Hellesdon Cake Shed journey began.

How it’s going

The shed has been open since the start of April, and it’s been going even better than I ever imagined.

We sell out most weekends, have a growing number of regular customers, and the online response has been incredible. The messages, comments, and reviews genuinely make my day it’s been so lovely to see such a positive reaction from the community.

I’m enjoying it far more than I ever thought I would, and that’s probably the best surprise of all.

Future plans

Honestly, if things keep going the way they are, I think a bigger shed might be on the horizon!

I’m also looking at installing a fridge in the shed to help during warmer weather, along with exploring other ways to weatherproof and improve the setup so we can keep everything running smoothly year-round.

We’ve also been contacted by several businesses about potentially stocking their cafés, so keep an eye out you might be able to get your Hellesdon Cake Shed fix on weekdays too!

Any challenges?

I honestly expected more challenges than I’ve actually experienced so far!

I was a little worried at first about how other cake sheds in the area might react whether there might be competition or tension, but everyone has been genuinely lovely and supportive.

The only real challenge is the time it takes each week. People often don’t realise how many hours go into baking, labelling, packaging, and preparing everything properly.

But food safety and allergy compliance are absolutely essential in a business like this, so it’s all part of doing things properly and I don’t mind putting in the work to make sure everything is safe and up to standard.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Hellesdon Cake Shed so far whether you’ve visited, shared a post, left a kind message, or simply told a friend about us.

It genuinely means the world, and I can’t wait to see where this journey goes next.
