For as long as I can remember, baking has been part of my life. As a little girl, I loved spending time in the kitchen with my nan, grandad and mum, making pastries and cakes together. Those are some of my happiest memories.

After losing my mum when I was just 16, I fell out of love with baking for many years. It was something that reminded me of her, and it became difficult to enjoy.

Everything changed when I became a mum myself. I started baking birthday cakes for my children every year, and little by little I found my love for baking again. Today, when I'm not baking or looking after my three beautiful daughters, aged 9, 4 and 9 months, you'll usually find me at the horses, another one of my biggest passions.

After a lot of thought, and plenty of encouragement from my partner, I finally decided to register my baking business. On 1st May 2026, I opened Laura Lea Cakes, my cake shed in Tamworth, and it's been an incredible journey ever since.

At Laura Lea Cakes, you'll find a wide range of homemade treats, including brownies, blondies, cookies, cookie pies and plenty more. I also create celebration cakes and cupcakes for birthdays and special occasions, which I absolutely love making.

One of the most rewarding parts of running a cake shed has been seeing the local community come together. I don't do this because it's a job, I do it because I genuinely love seeing the smiles on people's faces when they visit. I want Laura Lea Cakes to be a place where people can slow down, relax and feel welcome.

I'm so grateful for the wonderful regular customers who visit every week, as well as all the new faces discovering the shed for the first time. Every visit brings me so much joy.

Of course, it's not always easy. Balancing baking with raising three young children can be challenging, and there's far more to it than simply baking. Every treat needs packaging and labelling, and one of the biggest challenges is deciding what to bake each week because no two weeks are ever the same. My cookies, cookie pies and cakes are always the first to sell out!

Looking ahead, I'm excited to see where this journey takes me. I'd love to continue welcoming new customers and, one day, perhaps even grow the business into something bigger.

For now, though, I'm simply overwhelmed by the kind messages, lovely comments and support from everyone who has visited Laura Lea Cakes. Hearing how much people have enjoyed my bakes means the world to me, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.
